Scientific progress and technological advances don’t happen without the curiosity, intellect and creativity of highly qualified people. From its start, the MIT Portugal Program (MPP) has invested in the advanced training of students and researchers by offering educational initiatives that expand their knowledge and widen their perspectives. The MPP trains people who make a difference in the world, whether in academia as scientists and professors, in industry as entrepreneurs or consultants, or as policymakers dedicated to solving society’s thorniest challenges.

Periodically, the MPP funds doctoral candidates who are interested in conducting research in one of the program’s strategic areas. FCT students pursuing a PhD through the MPP have access to a variety of world-class educational opportunities. Depending on their field of interest, FCT PhD candidates may conduct part of their research at MIT or at another foreign research institution.
