Thank you for being a part of climate.mit.edu. What started out as an experiment in community engagement on climate change turned into a campus-wide conversation about ways MIT can better support the public as they navigate this complex topic.
Since the launch of climate.mit.edu, our team has been investigating how MIT can provide the public with the best information on climate change. That exploration has led us to rethink the purpose and infrastructure of the site, and we’ve made some exciting changes that we’ll be rolling out this year.
You’ll start to see some of these changes over the next couple weeks. We’ll be rebranding the site as the MIT Climate Portal and releasing its new look, which we hope you’ll love. We’ll be retiring post likes and comments, and encouraging readers to share and engage with the content through their social media networks, to spread the conversation beyond the portal. We’re also pausing posts from personal profiles and focusing on posts from MIT groups and organizations, though for the time being we won’t be removing any existing profiles or posts.
This fall, we’ll be launching new kinds of content that will position the MIT Climate Portal as a trusted, go-to place for the public to learn about climate change and to hear from diverse experts.
We are currently rethinking the community aspects of the portal and ways members can meaningfully engage on climate change topics and with each other through the site. We would love to hear from you about how you would like to do this. You can email us your preferences at climate@mit.edu.
Thank you for your passion for learning and connecting with others on climate change. We hope that the changes we roll out over this year will make the new MIT Climate Portal an even more valuable resource for you going forward.
