MPP Governing Committee Member, Maria Zuber, named to Biden’s science council

Maria Zuber, member of the MIT Portugal Governing Committee (PGC) – MIT senior administration representative –   since 2019, has been named by the President-elect Joe Biden to co-chair the President’s Council of Advisors on Science and Technology (PCAST). Zuber will be the first women ever to co-chair PCAST.

The MIT-Portugal is really proud to have a member of the PGC in one of the top scientific positions in US.
Biden has selected two MIT faculty leaders — Broad Institute Director Eric Lander and Vice President for Research Maria Zuber — for top science and technology posts in his administration.
Congratulations to both!!

About Maria Zuber

Maria Zuber is the E. A. Griswold Professor of Geophysics and Vice President for Research at MIT. Zuber is the first woman to lead a science department at MIT and the first to lead a NASA planetary mission. In 2004, she served on the Presidential Commission on the Implementation of United States Space Exploration Policy. In 2002 Discover magazine named her one of the 50 most important women in science and, in 2008, she was named to the USNews/Harvard Kennedy School List of America’s Best Leaders. She has served since 2012 on the 24-member National Science Board (NSB), the governing body of the National Science Foundation, serving as NSB chair from 2016 to 2019.
