Encontro Ciência 2024: Collaborative Projects under FCT's International Partnerships with CMU, MIT and UT Austin

On July 3rd, the MIT Portugal Program will host, along with the CMU Portugal Program and UT Austin Portugal, the “Collaborative Projects under FCT’s International Partnerships with CMU, MIT and UT Austin” Session at the 2024 Encontro Ciência Summit. The session will take place at D. Maria Hall at Alfândega do Porto, from 2:30 pm to 4:00 pm. In this session, we will discuss the impact that these long-standing partnerships have had on the national and international scientific, academic and business community.

2.35 pm: Welcome Notes and Session Background: Brief Retrospective on FCT’s International Partnerships – José Manuel Mendonça, National Director, UT Austin Portugal

3.45 pm: International Partnerships and talent development

Moderation: Inês Lynce, National Co-Director of CMU Portugal With the participation of:

  • Lia Patrício, Scientific Director of CMU Portugal, Member of the Board of INESC TEC, and Professor at FEUP
  • Nelson Costa, Visiting Scholar at MIT AGELAB and Professor at University of Minho
  • Mariana Miranda, Visiting Researcher at The Texas Advanced Computing Center, UT Austin, and Researcher at INESC TEC

3.50 pm: International Partnerships and their contribution to scientific and technological-based innovation and entrepreneurship

Moderation: Pedro Arezes, National Director of MIT Portugal With the participation of:

  • Pedro Oliveira, Dean and Calouste Gulbenkian Chair Professor at Nova School of Business and Economics (NovaSBE)
  • Simão Soares, CEO of SilicoLife, a spin-off of MIT Portugal
  • Rosa Romero, CEO of Sphere Ultrafast Photonics and PI of UT Austin Portugal’s strategic project ExtreMed
