MPP session at Ciência 2021
On June 29, MIT Portugal was represented at Ciência 2021 by Pedro Arezes, MPP National Diretor; Zita Martins, MPP National co-director; with the participation of AEROS flagship project team – José Freitas from Edisoft – Defence & Aerospace Technologies; André Guerra from CEiiA; Tiago Hormigo from Spin.Works; Kerri Cahoy and PhD Students from Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT); and also MPP PhD Students Rita Pombo and Rita Dantas.
The session was titled “Crossing the Atlantic through Space” and focused on learning about space by diving deeper into research on Earth. The MIT Portugal has been putting into action initiatives that aim at establishing in Portugal the capabilities to develop space related technology, science and knowledge sharing, all in a strong and active international collaboration domain. In this session, we share the developments of some on-going research projects within the MIT Portugal framework and discussed the expected contributions for Portugal and for the world at different levels.
An evening session focused on “Science and the new challenges of space-climate interaction: from Earth observation to space climate” featured Zita Martins, National Co-Director. Zita was also interviewed at Encontro de Ciência. She spoke about the importance of this science summit both also on Space-Earth-Climate interactions and how they help humanity tackle global challenges. See the full interview here. On this day, Isabel Furtado, member of the MIT Portugal Governing Committee – Portuguese Industry Representative, was one of the invited speakers at the Plenary session “Science and the economy: recovery and resilience 2021-2027”.
