MPP discuss the scientific advances of the research projects and the contributions for Portugal
Last week, January 21st, at Teatro Thalia, the MIT Portugal Program (MPP) hosted a scientific discussion with the Flagship and Exploratory projects to show the scientific advances of their projects and the expected contributions for Portugal.
In attendance was the Minister of Science and Higher Education, Manuel Heitor, the MPP Directors (Pedro Arezes; Zita Martins; Doug Hart; John Hansman), and all the invited Portuguese PI’s from the MPP Projects. The researchers from the projects’ research teams at MIT were invited to join the session remotely.
“This session is a great example of the type of initiates we promote to engage with the research community and to foster network and elevated scientific discussions”, said Pedro Arezes, MIT Portugal Director.
For John Hansman, MPP co-Director at MIT, this type of discussion is really important and interesting to “promote the technical exchange and the scientific contribution of the program”.
During the afternoon the researchers from the MPP projects shared their developments in the areas of Digital Transformation; Earth Systems (Ocean & Space) and Sustainable Cities. These sessions were moderated by the Portuguese invited faculty members, the Area Leaders of the strategic areas, namely: Manuel Gameiro da Silva; Miguel Nóbrega, and Alexandra Moutinho.
“Today we’ve listened to how different research field areas can interrelate and how these MIT Portugal projects are active contributors to place Portugal in a leading position” reinforced the MPP co-Director, Zita Martins. She also added
The MPP co-Diretor at MIT, Doug Hart reinforced that MPP will continue to improve and make these connections between MIT researchers, Portuguese research institutions, and industry, more strong. He also highlighted the importance of the student’s education as part of this development.
The MPP has the intention to will continue working to create opportunities whereby different stakeholders can meet and discuss future collaborations to advance science and technology transfer in Portugal.
