MPP awarded the 2026 innovative research projects

The MIT Portugal Program has awarded the 2026 grants to 20 collaborative research projects between MIT and Portuguese researchers, for one year. These grants support 12 new proposals and 8 projects that are continuing from previous years. The grants are awarded to researchers from eight MIT Departments and the Institute for Data, Systems, and Society representing four MIT schools and  Shwartzman College of Computing, and six Portuguese universities as well as researchers from the International Iberian Nanotechnology Laboratory. 

The 2026 call for proposals by the MIT Portugal Program welcomed submissions for innovative projects that have the potential to benefit Portugal in one of eight core research areas: Earth Systems: Oceans to near Space ( 2 projects); Climate Science & Climate Change (3 projects); Energy (3 projects); Chips/nanotechnology (3 projects) ; Space ( 2 projects); Sustainable Cities (1 project); AI ( 3 projects); Digital Transformation (3 projects).
