September 4, 2026

Electra’s hybrid, fixed-wing aircraft could make travel easier for passengers taking shorter trips. The company grew out of a capstone design class project co-taught by MIT Professors Mark Drela and John Hansman who is also a Co-Director of the MIT Portugal Program

The capstone design class has also been offered as a Collaborative Capstone Project by Hansman and Alexandra Moutinho, Professor at the Instituto Superior Técnico, to students from MIT and Portugal which designed a Stratospheric Solar Electric Climate Observation Aircraft.
